Investigating Infectious Diseases
In order to protect the health of Idahoans and prevent the spread of infectious diseases (also know as communicable diseases), epidemiologists (or disease investigators) at Eastern Idaho Public Health District (EIPHD) investigate cases of reportable diseases and other unusual occurances of disease in our communites. When a reportable disease is identified in our health district, our epidemiologists work to identify anyone who may have been in close contact with the infected person and provides them with education and vaccination or medication if needed to stop the spread of the disease.

In addition, through our Surveillance Epidemiology program, we work with health care providers, hospitals, urgent care centers, and schools to proactively identify possible disease clusters and/or outbreaks based on patient symptoms and abstenteeism rates.
