Food Program
Our Role
The role of Eastern Idaho Public Health District's Food Program is to help food stablishments provide safe food for the public.
Today's consumers expect clean, wholesome, and safe food from all food establishments. An effective food program needs to complement and support the operator's efforts to provide these amenities to the public.
The Food program at EIPHD focus on assuring that all foods served to the public are safe from source to service, including all steps and processes in between in accordance with the Idaho Food Code. This is accomplished by inspection of food establishments, ensuring food supervisors have necessary training, and answering food related questions. Each food establishment which serves or sells potentially hazardous food must be licensed prior to opening. |

How to Apply for a Food License
All food establishments in Idaho are required to have a food permit. Food establishments that are being newly constructed should contact an Environmental Health Specialist at EIPHD prior to begining construction to discuss food license requirements. This involves having the plans for your food establishment reviewed prior to construction.
All other establishments, including those being remodeled, changing ownership, as well as temporary events also need food permits.
Please contact the Environmental Health Division at your local health district office to discuss the process and find out what is required.
Food Safety Training
Due to the availability of the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare's online Food Safety Exam, classes are no longer being held at EIPHD offices. However, if a hardship exists and you cannot partake of the online exam you can contact 208-334-5938 for alternative solution.
