Eastern Idaho Public Health District's Environmental Health specialists conduct regular inspections of restaurants, grocery stores, meat markets, farmer's markets, schools, food processors, mobile food vendors, and all other facilities that handle potentially hazardous foods (PHF) and are required by law to obtain a license. Inspections are conducted to determine compliance with the Idaho Food Code and to verify that food workers are following good retail practices (GRP) and engaging in proper hygiene and food handling procedures.

| All food establishments receive at least one unannounced inspection each year. All violations observed during an inspection should be corrected immediately. If a violation is unable to be corrected at the time of inspection, a follow-up inspection may be conducted, or the operator may be allowed to submit a violation correction report (VCR) within a timeline approved by the inspector.
